In this event of our Liturgy After Hours series, we will explore the text and music of the Gloria in Excelsis Deo, the longest and, lyrically most complicated of the congregational chants of the Mass. A combination of pre-biblical hymns, pre-Constantinian theological language, and lot of musical notes, this hymn is a mass-favorite. Through guided attention to the text and music, we will ask, “What is it?”, “How to sing it?”, and “How to pray it?”
Reception in the McGuire Hall to follow.
